2019 Entry Level Clinics Now Include A Field Session

STSR has implemented a 4 hour field session to replace the class room training that was done in the past. Exercises will include training for proper signals by the referee, correct flag signals by the assistant referee and the opportunity to blow a whistle and raise a flag during a scrimmage prior to the referees first actual assigned match. Applications For 2019 STSR Scholarship Contest

Applications are now being accepted for 2019 South Texas Soccer Referees, Inc. scholarship contest. South Texas Soccer Referees, Inc. will award 3 merit based scholarships to high school seniors graduating in the spring of 2019.


The scholarship is available to any person currently registered as a U.S. Soccer Federation Referee in Texas South with South Texas Soccer Referees, Inc. The applicant must be in good standing with South Texas Soccer Referees, Inc. Applicant must be attending an accredited higher learning institution during the 2019-20 academic year (university, college,trade/vocational school, etc.) located in the United States. Previous winners are not eligible to participate.


The amount of the award will be $1,000 per scholarship.The award will be paid directly to the school mentioned in the letter of acceptance.

The IFAB 133rd Annual General Meeting

On 2 March 2019, the International Football Association Board (IFAB) held its 133rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Aberdeen, Scotland. The meeting, branded for "sensible changes to make the game better", was chaired by the President of the Scottish Football Association (SFA), Alan McRae and was attended by representatives from FIFA and the football associations of England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Discussions focused on several areas aimed at fine-tuning the Laws for the benefit of the game as well as an assessment of the use of Video Assistant Referees (VARs). To read more about the upcoming law changes, click here.

US Soccer 2019 Referee Recertification Courses Online

The referee recertification courses have been posted and are now available – all are online for your 2019 badge. As per the 2019 US Soccer requirements, anyone 13 and younger with a current grade 8 badge will retain the same level of certification and anyone 18 and older with a current grade 8 badge will be given the grade 7 upgrade course for recertification. The grade 7 upgrade course does not require a physical test nor an assessment to attain the grade. Sign in and register for your 2019 badge and respective course.

US Soccer has announced changes to the certification and recertification requirements for referees registering and registered in Texas South.

  • Grade 9, 8 and 7 Referees
  • Grade 7+ - registraiton has been discontinued.
  • Grade 6 Referees
  • Grade 5 Referees
